"The Forgotten Pioneers" is a short documentary created and produced by Merissa Williams and Lisa Cohen for Black History Month and originally aired on KIRO-7's "First Sunday" program. The film focuses on the unrecognized history of African American Pioneers in the Pacific Northwest. Interviews include Henry Donaldson, Guela Gayton Johnson, Mattie Vinyerd Harris, Ralph Hayes (historian), James Green Kirk, Esther Hall Mumford (historian), and Letcher Yarbrough. Reported and written by Merissa Williams. Edited by Steve Baxter and Jeannine Weholt. Production assisted by Holly Herrin.
